My father suffered from Parkinson's Disease for over 20 years. He died in December, 2016 of complications resulting from the disease.  His illness irrevocably changed my life. I joined the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2009 because the organization had the most forward-looking and nimble approach to treating the victims of Parkinson's, I stayed involved because the community of people I met is exceptional. I interviewed Michael J. Fox's son, Sam, about growing up with a father who had the disease for Avenue Magazine in 2014. Here is the article.

As a constant reader, I could think of no better organization to get involved with in New York City than the library.  I've been fortunate enough to be one of the co-chairs of the annual Library Lunch, an uplifting occasion which always celebrates the power of the written word in its many manifestations.
