Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte | The Daily Telegraph   |  May 2023
A strong and controlling wealthy father whose psychological hold on his adult children is so tight that it could ruin their ability to run the family inheritance… It is a scenario straight from Succession. But this is also the true story of the de Vogüé family. Twin brothers Alexandre and Jean-Charles, who are 54, and Ascanio, 53, are the fifth-generation owners of the 17th-century Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte continue reading

1968 Paris Protests   |  Document Journal  |  May 2018
It’s been 50 years since the May Riots that glutted the streets of Paris during the height of the Vietnam War. As all manner of Semicentennial recollections pop around us, few events can match the unrest that marked “Les Événements,” as the protests were known, is a stark reminder that the social divisions and unrest of this period are still present, even today. continue reading

A Royally Good Time   |  Avenue  |  July 2016
The sun finally appeared for the last hour of daylight on the magnificent 18th-century Palladian façade of Houghton Hall. Eighty guests, dressed in black tie, spilled out onto the lawn in front of the house, ready to enjoy A Taste of Norfolk—a gala evening in aid of EACH (East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices) for funds needed to build the Nook, Norfolk’s new children’s hospice. Norfolk is three hours away from London. On the eve of the United Kingdom’s referendum vote continue reading

On The Record    |  Avenue   |  February 2016
Record producer Chris Blackwell is a man who has always acted on his instincts. And never has that impulse served him so well as the moment he handed over £4,000 in cash to three itinerant Rastafarian musicians and made history. Of course, everyone knows that the three Rastafarians were Bob Marley and the Wailers and that with Blackwell’s money the band would create Catch a Fire, an album of songs that brought reggae music to the world, sold millions of records and eventually continue reading

The Royal Treatment   |  Town&Country   |  2015
Captain Charles Bowmont, a.k.a. The Marquis of Bowmont and Cessford and the future Duke of Roxburghe, is 34 years old, single, and heir to a thriving 52,000 acre estate, Floors Castle, and a fortune reputedly worth $122 million. So you could be forgiven for assuming that his primary pursuit might be something other than starting a business. But, as the captain says, "at some stage Dad is going to do a handover, and my career was always likely to be focused on the family business continue reading

Where the Wild Things Are   |  Avenue on the Beach   |  June 2013
For our annual jewelry shoot at Avenue, we worked with the finest jewelry brands in the market today. The photo shoot above was inspired by the classic children's story, Where the Wild Things Are, as I have always wanted to be Max, the little boy with his enormous jeweled crown, leader of the Wild Things. Set against a background of multi-colored plants and flowers, the pieces of jewelry popped for the viewer in a visual feast. View More

Red Hot Chili   |   Evening Standard Magazine   |  2008
Valparaiso, Chile is one of those cities that has defied nature’s wish to destroy it more than once. Its row of brightly colored buildings are arranged on a series of steep hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and are so precariously perched that it is easy to see how one large earthquake might make them slide like dominos into the sea, as many did in 1906 when a terrible earthquake killed 20,000 people continue reading

Green Issue   |  Vanity Fair   |  May 2006
I was the lead researcher for Vanity Fair's Inaugural Green Issue, devoted to covering the environmental concerns that threaten the planet. I was also the co-writer on the Green Portfolio, a compendium of (relatively) easy ways to help save the planet.
